My Bluespots haven't ever spawned before but my male (BJ) flashes all the time (cooler than anything I have seen on any dive trip yet). Yesterday and today I noticed that my female (The Misses) has a belly full of eggs.

My female today...

A short video clip of her today...

My male...from a month or so ago, shortly after he had been beat up by someone (he tried to steal the goby's den)

About 5 minutes of video of him flashing a while back...(some of this also shows the female)

Of course, they would decide to start spawning right before your tank goes through a major upheaval and you do this major move... naturally! Very cool though!

They have had all year to do this! Someone else in Utah recently had a spawn, but daddy ate them (bad daddy), so this must be the season. Other than that I don't know of any other confirmed pairs.

If anyone is interested in learning more about Bluespots, you ought to check out the Bluespot Club on RS...where there are over 6500 posts about them! We have tried to capture our successes and failures and identify any other information that is available. Pairing them is very difficult, because you can't really sex them and if you get two males, they will likely kill each other.

What is the plan if they do have a sucessful spawn?

Plan? I have no plan.

If I could figure out how to make a successful transfer I know a few people in Utah who would love to try and raise them, but there really isn't much about them (just a bit about pearlys and jawfish in general). I don't have the time or proper setup to be successful. However, it would be way cool to have a tank of little baby jawfishes looking at me!

I wouldnt get too excited about raising the young, my pearlies bred about every two weeks once they matured and never raised them to the frye stage. They always disappeared right before they would hatch, you could see the little eyeballs and a heart beating inside the eggs, next day, gone. I suspect the male but cant say for sure..

No high hopes here. I'm just thrilled that I even have a pair.

Well if you can get them to hatch out it wouldn't hurt to make a go at it. I have access to a rotifer and artemia supply and would love to give it a shot. I have just one bluespot now but eventually I want to get a pair.

I'm back from my quick trip to Idaho and my female is very fat.
Should I be worried? She seems fine, is active and eating well.

If she is eating I would not be worried one bit. It is amazing how big a fish can get before spawning!

Well the swapped holes for a bit today, but as far as I can tell nothing more.
