Would like to replace the sand bed with fine sand but I don't want to have another cycle.

I made it. Total cost was around 30.00

Dont change the sand! You will wish you hadnt. I have sugar size in my 20L and if you try to put a decent amount of flow in the tank it cause a huge sand storm. JME
