trim question

i was scraping the paint of the back of a tank i just got so i can repaint it and broke the trim while taking it off. my question is do i need the trim? can i make a center brace? or do i even need anything at all. the tank is 24X18X12. the glass is 1/4"

also could i just take wood trim and silicon it to the tank?

How big a tank?

i'm not sure if a tank that small needs trim, but with 1/4" glass, i wouldn't risk it. if you decide to replace the trim you can get it from glasscages.com already cut to size.
