OK, I now have an inline chiller instead of my old drop in. I'm just curious if it's alright to just plumb it into my return line from my sump rather than add another pump just to run it since my pumps rating is fine for it.

that is exactly how i used to run mine - it was plumbed into one of my return lines. as long as the flow rate is correct, i dont see why it would cause a problem

Thanks,
That's what I figured but just wanted to make sure there was no issues in doing it this way. My pump is rated at 960 gph at 4' head and the required flow is 600-1000 so I'm sure that should be fine.

Cliff,

Just make sure you can take it out of the loop for maintenance, if need be.

It will have unions and cutoffs for that reason alone.

You could make a 'drop in' by pass and keep it on the shelf until your ready to do service on the chiller. Basically just a piece of spa flex with unions on each side that could go from the pump side to the tank side.

Not a bad idea. And actually might be easier to plump in that way to the existing system.
