skimmer mod opinions

I took apart my skimmer today to clean it out and redo the mesh mod. While I was doing that I thought about adding a bubble plate. I've seen pictures of a mod where someone used a piece of 4" pvc with an acrylic top to make a bubble plate. This lead me to an idea. What if I made a pvc ring inside the body of the skimmer. I would then drill holes all around the top of the ring. My thinking is that this ring would serve the same purpose as a bubble plate. That being to minimize turbulence in the skimmer. The pvc would be 3/4" and sit just below the mid point. Do you think it will work? The picture is not to scale. I think the pvc elbows would all be touching.
