This is so sad, I don't want to post a picture unless I have to. My baby clown disappeared Sunday morning. He is small, so that is not unusual until he didn't show up to eat that night.
The last time I saw him was at morning feeding by my weir overflow. It has a grid to keep anything from slipping through, but he did, then I have my lines capped in the refuge to reduce air bubbles, so that is where I found him. Stuck in the end cap in a water falls.

One eye was bulging, the other looked shrunk in. (the swelling has gone down now) His tail was gone and everything from his last stripe down was gone. He was very excited to get back in the tank, except my female clown was not nice and he was swimming in circles, so I put him in a floating breeder tank. That was fine till the light came on in the morning. He was getting to hot and leaning, so I set up a quarantine tank.

I added some treatment to relieve stress, but slowly his tail began rotting off. (best I can describe it) He no longer has a third stripe at all. His spine is sticking out, but he is alive. I have not seen him eat. Don't recommend a swirly ride, cuz I can't do it! He was looking really lethargic yesterday, so I got my nerve up, and on the way to the swirly bird, he became very active...U turn, he is not giving up, so neither am I.

Last night he was laying down so I decided I had nothing to lose and tried some Metro+ for Lateral Line Disease. Right or wrong I don't know, but he is more active this morning and no worse. I did a 50% water change w/established tank water. I can re-treat with Metro+ every 24 hours and they recommend water changes daily.

So any suggestions that do not involve additional water rides! Do you think it will grow back? I know a tail will, but a body too?

Cutting his head with a sharp knife would be far less cruel to the the fish than a swirly bird poisoning. Is his spine really sticking out of his back? Never heard of a fish living through the torture you described. But it sounds like you are trying antibiotics and dedicated, thats all I know to tell you to do. I hope he pulls through. Just be sure to keep water quality high and feed him good.

hopefully it will pull thru.

if it takes a turn for the worst, the most humane way is to put it in a bag (no water) in the freezer.

Since the water change, he looks a little worst. I used water from the established tank, to reduce stress, but could it also have more bacteria? Would fresh water be better? I'm assuming bacteria in the water is working against him, causing the deterioration of his body, could it make sense to add fresh water instead to dilute the bacteria?
Thanks guys.
(Yep, Justin, his spine is exposed, but he is still swimming around. He must have been Patton in another life.)

One of my Naked Clowns went missing yesterday, literally tore the tank apart and still cannot find him. :at_wits_end: I was hoping to wake up this morning, and find him swimming out in front of the tank.
Hopefully Cindy every will work out for you, keep us posted!

This afternoon, I just couldn't take watching Patton suffer anymore, so I let him go visit the North Pole. Thanks Ace, it was quicker and easier than other options.
