LTA's are usually pretty hardy.. How did you acclimate it? You got something goin on there.. What else is in the tank?

Yeah I wondering what's in there? How long did u acclimate? Where did u get it. I really hate it when that happens. LTA's? I hope it wasn't white.

a maroon clown, domino damsel, scooter blenny, a goby, and a bunch of zoos. i drip aclimated until the water was double then i dumped out hald and dripped for another hour. it was about a 2 1/2 hour process. my clown doesnt host in it so it could have anything to do with that

i got it from B&B and it was bright green. it was doing great until today. it opened to twice the size it was when i got it. i dont think it had anything to do with where i got it from because i always buy from b&b and never had a problem

I went through 3 bta's with my pair of maroons. They get pretty rough with it.

Anemones can be very toxic. It wiped out my first tank about 8 years ago.

i took it out and put it in an empty tank i had set up that way if it dies it doesnt kill anything. i tried to feed it squid and shrimp but it never took it. i will get my perems checked tomorow and hopefully that will let me know what went wrong. everything else in my tank looks great still. i was planning on trading him for a smaller anemone anyways because he was way too big and i didnt want him touching my zoos. i think that i am just going to give up on nems. why put something in my tank that can take everything down with it.

Mine was one of the more toxic ones, I kept it in a agressive fish tank, heavy bioload and normal fluorescent lighting, not even power compacts. LOL I was a newbie.

That sucks that your lta isn't doing very well. How is it doing today? How mature was your tank before you added the anemone? These anemones do get huge, Moe and his family knows.:D They got to see our purple LTA, its oral disc is about 16 to 18 inches. An M. Doreensis's mature size is a 20 inch disc and that is not counting its long tentacles.

Its hard to get good anemones. I went through two of them and I made the rookie mistake of letting my wife get "the pretty white one". I had to inject mysis and brine shrimp directly into its mouth until it was able to regain its nematocyst and its zooxanthellae for photosynthesis. Talk about a PITA. Its doing fine now though.
Try doing a drip acclimation for a few hours to acclimate the next one. I've heard that seems to work best and that is how I acclimated mine.
Good luck on your next one. I'm sure someone will be able to give more info on how to pick out a healthy one.

sucks to hear. i love anemones but they are so picky. they can be just fine one day and then dead the next. they look amazing but then they move all around the tank. its annoying.
