I have some zoas and have these things coming out of it and I have NO idea what they are. It is not any mojano that I have ever seen. Any idea? And how do I get rid of them? I went in there and manually pulled them once, and they grew back.

I think that they might be sliming. If that's what it is, there might be something bothering the crud out of them.

Some zoanthids and sponges have symbiotic relationships. Not the case here but it doesn't look like they are terribly irritated by the sponge. Clean it off the best you can and leave the zoa colony out of water for 15 minutes or so; that should take care of it. Zoas will be fine.

About a week maybe? I didn't see it there before I went on a business trip, and when I came back I saw it. Must have been growing before then though, just not protruding out from the zoos.

Did you take care of it like stoneroller suggested? How you deal with yours?

I did clean it up a bit and it grew back quickly...I'll take another go at it and this time leave it out of the water. I was thinking of doing a freshwater dip, but i'll just take it out for 15 min or so. Thanks.
Thanks for all the replies.

Yeah, sponges don't like exposure to air - AT ALL.

I have had many of those, I have always just let them be...they look natural. I have had the zoas grow on them before, so I don't think the sponge could take over in my experience.
Expose them to air and they normally die off.

ismael, i think it is a rare fragacesomecyphastrea sponge - i think you know what you would have to do to get it to go away.....
jk, like others have said, probably harmless as long as you dont let it cover them. i would do the out of the water thing to make sure.

I took it out of the water and cleaned it up with a syringe bulb. Very easy to suck it up and take it off.. Hasnt been back since. :)
