Okay, so I was a boob tonight and put my ramen in the microwave without putting water in the bowl. Needless to say, there were a lot of flames in my microwave. My kitchen and living room were filled with smoke. My tank is situated between the kitchen and living room.

Are my fish at any risk from the smoke?

Just open all the doors and windows for awhile, they should be fine.

Sounds easy enough. I just wasn't sure if I'd need to change out some of the water or aerate the tank.

If you have some fans point one in from the window and another out. We burned some food the other day and using both fans cleared up the smell fast. Also, it wouldn't hurt to put some carbon in the tank.

You know, I thought of this too - but I wondered why one might put carbon in the tank to filter out... carbon (smoke)... :shades:

Nice...since smoke is actually small particles of carbon. Good point Bill!

A nice tight micron filter would do the job, if there is any job to do. Or...just skim wet for a while...I would guess if there isn't any film built up on the surface of the water that you are ok.

it isnt the smoke (carbon portion) i would be worried about. since this was an appliance fire, there were wires, plastics, and other electrical components that could have released toxic chemicals into the smoke as they burned. these are the things that running carbon on the tank might help eliminate (assuming they absorbed into the water)

Luckily there was no film on the water. The microwave itself is fine, just a little smoke filled. The only thing that burned were the ramen noodles. All my fish seem fine. Thanks guys.
