I have been a lurker on here for a while. I live in Abilene about three and a half hours up the road. I'm in the Air Force and right now I'm in the process of getting a special duty to Lackland. I come to SA often as my fiancee lived down there for 8 years. Anyway.....

I wanted to know how many people keep their refugium lights on 24/7 or just on opposite of the main lighting? Or whatever other options are out there.

Thanks

Kevin

Typically I've kept my fuge light on a reverse cycle from my display lights. However, I've been toying with the idea of 24/7 lighting.

I run mine on reverse cycle to keep the PH stable, but I've heard that running 24/7 would be best if you're going to use Caulerpa in your sump as it will keep it from going sexual.

I run 24/7. Keeps the Caulerpa in your sump from going sexual.

I've always run mine 24/7. Was never quite sure how one 65 watt bulb would make much of a PH difference after having about 1000 watts of light on during the day. Now not as much of a wattage difference since I switched to T5's but still same thought.

I keep mine 24/7 as well. Gives me something to look at in those early morning hours before PT.

When I used chaeto I think I had it on 24/7 but I can't remember. It was to long ago. I have never used Caulerpa and right now I have nothing. I'm trying to get some cheato from some guys up here on ABIMAS but no one has some to trim yet.

I need to live in Rubens world. I've never found 24 hours in a day to be enough.

Reverse timed on my 120. However I started leaving the stand lighting on 24/7 and kept the direct refugium lighting on a reverse timer. The temp would rise too high if I kept the main refugium light on during the MH period. It's a 90 watt lowes light.

I run reverse cycle with the main tank. Keeps heat down and temps more stable.

We keep our light for our refugium on all the time. We use a 23w 6500k fluorescent bulb with a cheap light fixture from lowes. This bulb doesn't throw off any heat and seems to be a good light for growing macroalgae.

I use a 6500k or it's a 7500K fluorescent from HD. I don't remember what the watts are off the top of my head. I also use a generic light fixture that I took the reflective shield off to help reduce the heat it directs in to the fuge. I don't have anything in my fuge as of yet. I'm still trying to get some from guys of the ABIMAS, however I am in SA at 1604 and 281 till Sunday afternoon if anyone has some cheato they can spare :-)

Kevin,

I'm just up 281 from 1604. I only have a small handful of chaeto but I would be willing to split it with you so you can get started.

I run mine all the time. I have a variety of macros, so I don't want anything getting freaky in my sump.... well except for the pods. :)

It was nice to meet you yesterday Allan. We got in late around 10ish. Thank you for the Chaeto. And if you know of anyone who needs to buy a house in the SA area, let me know and I will get them in touch with my Fiancee. She does a great job! :-D
