i built a sump with fuge, now my girlfreind doesnt want me to set it up she would rather have a canister filter, i need to know some pros and cons of having a sump with a built in fuge, i heard it keeps nitrates down but thats all i know. i have a 28g bowfront with 2 domino damsels (soon to go back to who i got them from) , large maroon clown, scooter bleeny, and a flametail bleeny just added today, enough zoos to start a zoo zoo

i would go with a sump over the canister. add a good skimmer and your good to go. you can also add things in the sump to keep them from being seen in the display tank. The benefits of haveing a sump: · increasing total water volume,
· providing a place for equipment and filtration,
· keeping the surface of the water free of contaminates,
· aerating the water,
· simplifying water changes, and
· keeping the water level stable in the display tank.

this link should really help ou out!

besides of which, running a fuge is fun. I get almost as much out of my fuge as I do the display tank.

...my wife doesn't though...

Thanks alliedag85 for the great link on sumps. I'm in the initial stages of building one and this helps a lot with my understanding and planning.

No problem, Marc is full of info. I stopped by his house a long time ago before he had is big in wall. I always go to his site if I need to find out some info on stuff. He's a member of the DFWMAS and I know he went to TMAC but not sure if he did a presentation or not.
