I've been asked by a few people to frag my toadstools, since I've never fragmented a leather before I was wondering what the best cutting device would be, scissors, razor blade, IDK...laser?

Check out my signature for pictures.

Good scissors worked well for me the last time I fragged my devil's hand leather.
I did it in the tank. One snip and it was all over! Frag has tripled in size.

You use stainless steel or just regular scissors?

Stainless steel. Made by Fiscars.

You say one snip did it. Could you elaborate on that as my devil's hand is pretty big and I've been wondering how to frag it.

I think hobby lobby carries them. I got mine from Fellers but you have to have an account.

INNATE1, I just cut off the fingers. They grow back. I haven't cut the foot ot the center if it.

I wouldn't cut a leather in the tank, too much slime released. Rinse well before putting them back. Take pics!

i agree with the slime issue- I cut mine with a pair of surgical scissors(wife is an RN)- I found a spot where I could frag it with one cut and then cut it right off. It did slime and I cut it in my tank. There was quite a bit of slime, but no ill affects to the tank. It cleared up quickly.

Thanks for the insight. I don't have a choice since the leather attached to several large pieces of live rock. I have lots of flow from return pump and sea swirl that hit the leathers. Any slime should be taken care of, but I'll keep a close eye. I'll document what I've done and post it here.

Thats the same problem I had. My leather is on a big rock that supports alot of my rock work so I just fragged him there. I just kept the fragging to 3 pieces or fingers.

So I hacked on two of my leathers this morning. I made sure all polyps were retracted and snipped away. I'm following the instructions I found on utube (link below).

Well its been about 48 hours since I hacked on my leathers and I'm pleased to say that both are doing fine. They did not slime and have extended their polyps as of last night. The frags are in a small container of shells, hopfully they will attach within a week.
