So I have several mushrooms ranging in variety and color, but after six months or more they're still single heads. I've seen pictures or in person of mushroom colonies rangeing from 10-50 on a single rock. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas area welcome.

Some shrroms do better in high lighting and others in low or mid. You need to find out what they like best. Also, almost all of them like LOW flow.

If they are fully open and extended then they are happy and should multiply.

Watching them divide is pretty cool. I started out with about twenty green mushrooms, now I have close to twenty. I've had them less than a year. I have a feeling that they are going to run my watermelon mushrooms off... which I don't really mind... the green ones are so much nicer.

they love dirty water and low flow and mostly moderate lighting. you can try feeding them pellets too

I tried slicing them in two with a razor. Hoping that this would double the number on the rock. Didn't work. They grew back together.

I have seen that they do well in tanks with a little high nitrate, not that I am advocating that! It looks like from your pictures that you have them in the right spots as far as lighting and current. I would give it a couple months. I had one mushroom that hung out for a while and just got real big and now it has turned into 16!

Thanks for the words of encouragement red, all of my shrooms have atleast doubled in size. Some of them have "walked" a little bit to get in a better spot and have left little pieces of themselves behind. As for splitting, I've not had the experience. :(
