Probably bubble algae, valonia (sp?). We would need some pictures to be certain.

I've been having a similar problem the past month. I've been getting an accumulation of air bubbles all over. Currently have an outbreak of cyano and it sticks to that, but it sticks to anything that has even the slightly bit of algae on it. I don't know why there are so many bubbles...and my sand bed seems to have a lot underneath the cyano areas also.

I don't pretend to have any level of expertise like the other folks who post on here, but I saw the same thing discussed in a forum recently (and I think it may have been on this site). I had the same thing to and it went along with an outbreak of red stuff in my sand.

Based on what I read, I turned off the lights for a few days--because I know my RO/DI which comes from River City was good and I also don't overfeed. So...it had to be lighting.

I reduced my light time by about 1/2 hour to just to make sure and it seems like the problem has gone away.

When our tank had just been upgraded about a month or so, we had a nice outbreak of cyano and algae - or two. Somewhere in that process we started getting all these oxygen bubbles that were clinging to the rocks. Also same bubbles were trapped along the sandline so that if you poked at the sand, bubbles would be released.

I posted about it here on MAAST and we had a small discussion. Someone commented that it was part of the algae die-off process, and that hopefully it meant the algae was beginning to improve itself. The algae did improve after that and the oxygen bubbles also.

I am doing a search for that thread but so far have not been able to find it (wanted to offer the link for you to read). If I do find it, I'll post it here.

i remenber when i first had my 10gal it was run by the redslime. I would just move the sand around. Aside that I found out that the SG was very high, I was overfeeding. A good friend came to the rescue and help me out. corkeyGRAMMER, I learn alot from her.

definitely looks like cyano

be aggressive with water changes and vacuum out as much as you can

later on you might try chemiclean, lots of people here have had success with it, including myself (numerous times)
