I dont care how rare those fish are... your an idiot if you pay 6k for a pair that could easily die immediately. Whats the return policy?:hypnotyized:

Hmm... wonder what these will go for on sale?

Seriously, the price may be worth it for a breeding facility like ORA or someone rolling in the $$. I have read the story about how these managed to find their way into the hobby - this guy has some serious persistance and dedictation for a fish that is only found in an area that is generally not permitted for collection.

wtf. its just clownfish.

really, an idiot?

if a hobbyist has the money and dedication to care for these fish then what makes them an idiot. the person who purchases these fish is not going to be your everyday hobbyist, they're more than likely going to be someone with a fat bankroll and a show tank worthy of this pair. i doubt they would be in any danger of immediate death [other than from shipping]. you should think about that before you call people names...also, i too have read the history of these fish and understand why the price is at a premium.

read this quote from rc...

Regardless of what you think of the looks or the cost, its a cool story, and while I don't personally think its worth the cost, there are some for whom it is worth it; and thank goodness for them because having those initial buyers are the only way the breeder can recoup the cost, and if there is no prospect of recouping the cost, then there is no incentive to pioneer new breeds of tank-raised fish. Think of it this way. There was a time when VCRs cost $1000, when basic plasmas tvs cost $10,000, and so on. If it weren't for the initial adopters willing to pay the premium to compensate for the R&D costs that went into these technologies, its very possible they would never have been developed in the first place. And all of us will enjoy the benefits of having another option in tank-raised fish when the costs come down. And they will likely do so within a few years, once the original stock go on to create their broodstock, and they have broodstock and so on (basic supply and demand).

i think this guy sums it up nicely...

not trying to call anyone out or call anybody names... I am sorry if offended anyone with my comment.

My point, to clarify my previous post, is those fish are not worth that much to me. Whether you are talking about fish (or anything for that matter), everyone is willing to pay for something they treasure. If you can recoupe the $$ by breeding, good for you! And if you just pay for the fish outright, good for you! Personally, unless I could recoupe the $$, that is not an investment that I would make.

Hopefully thats a little more "politically correct":shades:

Unless it cleans the house while I'm gone, or gives me a kiss goodnight, yep, it's just a clownfish.

Side note, the guy from RC is right. I remember bangai cardinals used to cost upwards of $100 when I first saw them in the 90's.

You can read a long thread about the story how these fish find their way into the hobby.
These are the offspring from a group of 10 wild caught fish ever collected and breed for the hobby. I think it worth it after all the time and effort (and risk) that he went through to get them. I don't have the money for them, and don't think that they are that attractive.
