I have a large - 2in diameter - coral that popped off one of my rocks. i took two rubber bands and gently/loosely made a + pattern with them to hold it on the rock....Will this work?

to frag it? since its a shroom you might as well just cut it into 4 pieces with a CLEAN razor blade and they should all be little frags soon

Jarob...

You mean take the shroom, quarter it, and those 4 pieces will eventually be 4 seperate shrooms????

Exactly, I used to do this ALL the time with my Ric's and cooler shrooms in my old frag tank. Then I would just put those quarters in a glass with rock rubble for them to attach to in the tank so that nothing disturbs them. You could technically go further than to quarter it, I have even seen people put a few rics in a blender for a second to shread them and the result would be TONS of little rics that grew over time.

the blender method is not advisable, you will lose more than is necessary. when slicing the mushrooms you need to get part of the mouth on every 'frag', this isn't possible without precise cuts. i have heard of this 'blender' fragging as well, but have never seen it done. nor can i find any info or videos of it.

you could always just glue it back on. just do it quick so as to not 'burn' the coral tissue.

First what the heck is a "Ric's"...

Second, where is the mouth of the Shroom (they have mouths??)

Third, can you describe the cuting method?

Fourth, this is totally cool!

There are a couple of utube videos of how to cut and frag mushrooms. They make it look easy, and in our experience it is not too hard, but I dislike the slimy yucky smell mushrooms have when they slime up out of the water. It gets on your hands and stinks.... JMO- Just google search how to frag mushrooms and you should get some ideas.- Mike (& Kristy)

The mouths are in the dead center of the shroom, provided it is round and not a frag.

haha yes I definitely do NOT recommend the blender method, ive seen it but would rather frag them myself by hand.

The mouth is not even needed for the frag to grow I've come to find in my shroom frag experiments, as long as some of the "foot" is attatched to the frag it should grow.
