Anyone know where I can find a good clip on fan for my sump? I am looking for some thing that will get the job done, nothing to fancy.

Walmart has 6" clip on fans for 10$... Nothing fancy, but blows cold air, 2 speed. Cant go wrong with 10$.

My T5 fixture was causing my tank to run hot (84-85) and with the fans its steady at 77-79. I have two for my 55g.

Big improvement! Are the fans over the sump or display? I added a 30 gal. sump and thought my temp would run cooler. It actually run a few degrees hotter now. I am guessing my mag 5 is the culprit. Anyone else notice a change due to adding a pump? I wasn't sure if a fan on the sump would do the trick and I don't have room on the display (big light fixture.)

It can make a 2 degree difference. Returns and Halides are the usual suspects. I have a fan in my canopy and one across my sump. My temp is blazin at 80. :)

Try and have the fan blow across an area in the sump that has a good amount of water movement like a overflow baffle or such. This is where you will get the most heat exchange from. Just remember you are also going to be have to top off more often since you are basically causing more evaporation.

Hey guys just wanted to let everyone know the fan seems to have helped a great deal. I set it up to turn on depending on the temp in the tank its sweet!!

Just curious, how do you set it up to turn on at a certain temperature level?

Did you go with the Walmart fan? Just curious. Glad to hear the fans worked out. Chillers are expensive and fans are usually an easy fix. The problem is when you get into SPS and have to keep the temp flucuation within a degree or two.

My temps fluctuate all the time. I don't think I have ever had issues with my sps due to temperature swings.

Not problems, just not optimal growth conditions.
