View Full Version : *CORALS ADDED pg3* 24g Aquapod

I had some time today while my wife and son were napping so I started on this project.

So, this (24g Aquapod) will be my grow out and holding tank for my Black Onyx Clown babies once they get past the smaller 1-5 gallon tanks. I will be adding different types of Macro Algae and of course live rock.

Here's some pics of the back plastic wall. I first applied aquarium sealant and spread it evenly across the back (used to keep the foam sealed to the surface). I then sprayed 1 full can of Black Pond Foam over the wet sealant. Next, I sprinkled sand over the wet foam and added crushed coral and pieces of crushed base rock to make it look more realistic.

Thanks everyone!

I did a Red Sea Max for my brother-inlaw about 4 or 5 months ago and the foam wall slowly started to loose it's grip...so I'm pretty sure the Aquarium Sealant I applied this time should solve that problem.

I can't wait to get water in it.

P.S. No baby yet!!!

Rob this counts as a baby.

:D

Looks really good man. We'll get together after the baby is born and trade out some frags.

Looks great.

Another tip (you or someone following this) can do in the future to prevent the foam structure from coming off the back wall:

Take some acrylic rod and cut it various heights. The height of the rod will determine the contours you will make on the back wall. Cut a bunch of them that will work with your contour layout. Then get some Weld On #40 and bond the acrylic rod to the false wall on the nano. Then do your foam magic over the rods. This will help the foam/sealant mixture stick real good and prevent it from floating away~

Did you happen to get any foam on you or anything around you? I still have disfigured finger nails due to Great Stuff I used two weeks ago, lol.

Can't wait to see the nano with some sand, rock and water.

Sounds good...still no baby yet!!! lol...wife is having frequent contractions about 10 minutes apart and they are getting stronger...so maybe by the morning I'll be a Daddy x2.

Great idea. I'm thinking the Aquarium Sealant I used should work nicely too.

Nope, no foam on me this time:wink_smile: My first time using it, shortly after I found one of Texreefer's threads about the foam; I didn't use gloves and made a super big mess! Had the stuff on me for weeks. Also, the pond foam for some reason seems less messy, no random sprays from the can in comparrison to the Great Stuff.

Thanks for all of the compliments. When I get some time, I'm going to do a large water change on my 120 and use some of the water for the 24 to get things going.

LOL!!! Fortunately my wife is nursing...so I'm like the "runner"...I'm her legs and arms...I get everything she needs : ) Oh...and I did that water change today and have everything running in the Aquapod now!!! So... THERE!!!!

Mark, I'm just going to use the stock hood, it has 2 32w pc bulbs. I may upgrade it with an upgrade kit to add more lighting but I have no intentions of removing the hood and going topless because of my children and house cleaners.

Well, I added black sand, water from my 120 and live rock from my 120 along with some macro algae...

Your nano looks nice. The black wall and the black sand go well together. The contrast between the sand and the coraline will be awesome once it gets growing.

You've got a bunch of sand in there. Are you afraid of the deeper sand affecting your nano negatively?

Thanks guys! I went with a deep sand bed since I will not have a skimmer or refugium attached. Also, it will primarily be Macro Algae.

Thanks! I added a bunch of coral a few days ago...only because it looks so cool...but that is totally not what I want to do for this tank. I really only wanted it to be like a fuge with lots of pods and benefitial growth to use as a grow out tank for my clownfish fry.

Very Nice, where did u get the sand?

Alamo Aquatics. They sell small bags of black sugar sand. It's not "live sand" but I liked the look. It is marine safe too. I wanted to use dark sand to keep the intensity of light low for the clowns.

Can you do the back of my tank like that for me? I really like the look and the rock set up. The macro stands out nicely too. Wish I could put some in my main tank, but the Tangs have a different use for it.

Very nice set up!!!

I stocked it with coral last night. Will get some pics up once the coral settles in. It's loaded with zoa colonies. I'm very happy I decided to keep it :)

Thanks, Dustin. I ended up keeping some of my favorite zoa colonies from my main display. There were a bunch more that I wanted to keep, but just didn't have the room.

Thanks, Miziny. I need to get rid of the aggressive palys in front of the cave and I think it will look much better. I got them from the Pay-It-forward program and I wish I would have never got them because now I'm stuck with them until some one signs up for them.

Maybe I will drown them :)
