Can I take the plastic frame off the top of a 20L? I just want to give it that rimless look. Im just afraid I gives to much support and might bow or come apart. What do you think?

Thanks
Dustin

Most rimless setups have thicker glass which allow for more silicone to bond the glass together. I'd say you idea sounds possible, but personally wouldn't chance it. That tank is probably going to open up like a clam shell.

No....especially on a long tank like that.

you could get a 1" wide strip of 1/4" glass cut to fit the front, back and both sides and silicone them on the top like eurobracing like in this tank i built

aside from the eurobracing like hobo showed, your also going to have to grind anf polish the glass. most often the manufaturers leave the edging untouched because they cover it with the framing.

i took the frame off of a 36 inch tank and it held up just fine, probably due to the low volume of water, but it had the ugliest edging-chipped and crooked. i have since gotten rid of it.

also, this is just a typical situation-not every tank is going to have crap edging. i say 20L's come a dime a dozen-so give it a shot.

Thanks for the info guys! The glass on the tank is 1/4'' thick. Is this the same as other 20L tanks? If I do this I wont be able to grind or add bracing because the tank is up and running already. LOL this could get bad if I make the wrong choice.

I would only even think about attempting it if it doesn't have a center brace. You can check the bow before and after to see any difference and realize if you made an immediate mistake.
