Good Luck. I don't have any experience with uv sterilizer, but I thought it worked more to prevent than to stop an outbreak. Hope things work out.

I had an ick problem for a while. My regal tang had it worst. Tried garlic. Got a cleaner shrimp. Still had ick. Fed more garlic. Still icky. Got a second cleaner shrimp. I think that tipped the scales and the ick went away, or into remission. Anyway, I still have two cleaners and haven't had ick for years. 240 gal.

You will not rid ich with a UV sterilizer. The only way for UV to be effective is that ALL the cysts and all that are attached to the fish need to go thru the light. This WILL NOT happen. Depending on your tank setup, you can either turn the heat up, lower salinity, keep fish healthy by feeding them nutritious food, and resolve what it was that caused them to pick it up in the first place whether it be stress, poor conditions, temp issues, or any and all other causes.

Sorry to inform you but cleaner shrimp do not remove ich. Ich is too tiny for them to ever grab. Chances are it went away because they were strong enough to fight it.

A UV light only helps to prevent an ick out break, your fish can still get ick even with a uv it will just help from getting ick all over the tank.

Ugh. Do a search. MY suggestion:

Feed well, remove stress, ich will take care of itself.

when my niger trigger gets ick, I do multiple water changes every other day and reduce his feedings, but more often. It seems to reduce stress and ick is gone.
good luck!!
