Welcome to MAAST Justin!
Read a ton right now and go slow to plan the reef the right way the first time. We are doing tank tours in a couple of weeks and I highly recommend that you tag along and listen, ask questions, make notes of the things that you like so you can plan a reef that will best support that.
Introduce yourself to other reefers at the fish stores. My husband and I are always happy to sit and talk reef and appreciate the newbies that are looking to learn. Feel free to ask questions.
Read some more! And have patience.

:Timeout: this is a friendly website... my advice is do research everybody does things in different way, there is hundreds of choices from light, sand type, sump, skimmer, lots of reading needed. what works for some doesnt work for others.
first off let us know what you already have and what type of coral/fish do you want to keep

thanks, i'll keep that in mind, i work with "sampsonndelila" who's been a big help. I just wish my wife would help alittle more, meaning she has a degree in marine biology from northwest FL. she's just not interested anymore. i'm hooked, just unable to drive due to medical condition. maybe i'll tag along with Carter

i understand the friendly website policy.... i work with "sampsonndelila" I've been doing alot of ready up on this hobby. I've been around the freshwater for a while now just wanted to step up into the salt world. Tonight i plan on putting sand and picking up some live rock to start the first cycle

most of the time things get ugly before they get better in the begining, so hang in there

cool,
I'm putting the sand in tonight and going to start filling it with saltwater. I built my own sump and filter, save alittle money. Heading over to wolf reef for the live rock tonight 50-70lbs is all i need right now. still need the tank to cycle for a while

He needs about 65 lbs but we could always use as much as we can get. I am in the process of upgradeing to a 300 gal. From my current 125.

First bit of advice, read, read and read, until you're sick of reading then read some more.
Second bit of advice, do things right the first time. Short cuts are only the scenic route to the correct way of doing things.
Third bit of advice, have patients!

its easier to watch paint dry than to wait for the tank to be ready.
