I'm considering adding another fish to my tank and would love to get some suggestions. Nothing I have thought of, I have been totally wild about; so I'm curious to see what others think.
Existing Tank:
30 Gal, mixed reef. Pair of O. Clowns, Bicolor Blenny, Scooter Blenny, scarlet cleaner shrimp, pepermint shrimp, several large tube worms, soft and stony corals, some plants.
Because both blennies don't spend much time in the water column, I would prefer to get a fish that is relativly large, colorful AND swims out in the open most of the time.
So many small, shrimp, and sand gobies wouldn't be ideal. Angel fish would be just the thing if it didn't run the risk of coral eating.
I've considered purple firefish, bangai cardinal (would only get tank raised), maybe royal gramma. Don't know what else.
Any suggestions??

I have a 30 gallon as well. I am currently pondering IF I will get a fish and if I do WHAT type of fish to get.
I will be watching this thread for ideas.

I purchased a royal gramma today, and put it in the 30 with 2 ocellaris. I love it. It is colorful. Hasn't swam out much, but it is new to the tank, so it's probably getting use to it's surrounding. On a side note, I also added a condylactic anemone today too and watching that thing find it's place in the tank is cool.

I got a midnight angel and a Orchid Dottyback in my 30 g with my A. percula pair. Your tank, like mine is near it's max fish load. I recommend Fireball or Cherub angel. They will do well in a 30 g tank and are very colorful and beautiful. If they are a problem, it is easy to get them our of a 30 gal tank.
Another very interesting fish would be one of the shrimp goby with it's partner shrimp. There are so many beautiful gobies and shrimp, the sky (and money) is the limit here. Jawfish also a great choice in a small tank with sand bed.

So now I'm leaning towards a reef-friendly wrasse or a bangai cardinal. Either could be relativly large and striking, and active in the water coulumn. and get along with current inhabs

Anyone have bad or good experiences to share about banghi cardinal, or 6line wrasse or Filamented Flasher Wrasse?

A bicolor pigmy angel or a coral beauty angel would be nice.

Flasher Wrasses are definately jumpers so heads up, Bangiis are really cool and easy, especially in a schoal, 6 lines can be an issue with small shrimp and definately with some sandbed fauna, also pods and feather dusters but otherewise, a great fish! I like the firefish idea, maybe a purple or two??

My sixline has been a perfect gentleman when it comes to the invertebrates. He's a big rude to the new tank additions... at least of the first couple of days. Sixlines are definitely a great fish in my opinion, as long as its one of the last additions.

How about a Whitetail pygmy angelfish.....I have one in my 36g bowfront w/ a seahorse, yellowatchman goby, circus goby and randall goby w/pistol shrimp. I've never seen her pick on the corals ( Mostyly softies: colts, ricordeas, assorted mushrooms and assorted zoas). Another fish that you might consider....Armed Perchlet (geometric hawkfish).....this little fish believe or not is an anthia. It basically perches around like a hawkfish but on the bottom ----like the sandbed. They only get to be 2 inches when fully grown. If you consider a cardinalfish may I suggest the bluebarred cardinalfish. They're look like a glassfish---almost transparent but they have blue around the eyes and on the fins....very striking little fish once they acclimate to their environment.

6-line wrasse would not be good since you got a Dragonet in your tank. A few years ago, i got a pair of Mandarin Dragonet and a pair of 6-line in my 400 g tank. They are all had plenty of food and the Dragonet spawn regularly. After a long while, more than 1 year, the 6-line pair take turn and peck the eyes out of my Mandarin female. Once the eyes got peck out the attack end. The Mandarin starved after a few months and the 6-line goes to the LFS as soon as I caught them One right away and the other took 1 week with a fish trap.
So 6-line and Dragonet is a no no IME, especially in such a small tank

Ok, 6-line is out. Banggai is the winner I think. Though I'm still tempted to try to also add a purple firefish. I wonder if that would be too much load in the tank. Hmmm..
