If you had to choose between 30 Scarlet Reef Hermits and 100 small Blueleg Hermits which would you choose?
EDIT: I should add that I'll be getting 100 turbo snails along with the hermits, plus other random items like cucumbers, etc.

I think the blue legs are less agresive and smaller so snails have a better fighting chance.

i choose blue legs but i do prefer snails over hermits, and a fellow maastard once told me that blue legs will kill each other

Yeah I guess I should add that 100 turbo snails will be coming along with whatever hermits I choose.

Well it seems I differ from what the others have posted. I prefer the Scarlet reef hermits over the blue legs. In the few tanks I had, I never saw the scarlets pick on anything else that was living. When I got blue legs from Reeftopia for my last tank, my snail population started to decline. Of course they may have sent me evil hermits after I complained to them about their surplus fuel charge that shows up on their "free shipping" offer.

I was shocked at how fast one scarlet grew in a couple months. It killed a couple large nassarius snails before I caught the booger and sentenced him to the isolation chamber.

I was thinking more along the line of the micro blue legs. I've never had the larger ones.

I have never had a problem with scarlets...but my blue legs all kill each other.
I would chose half of each for variety...I have large hermits of both kinds plus red legs and I wish them all away because they move things around too frequently and they kill my snails.

Joshua, what are you going to keep in the new setup?
I've never had a problem with the true Scarlets...with the yellow..I think it's on the eye stems.
I like a mix, BUT, micro blues DIE if you have to do a red bug treatment, and Scarlets DON'T.

I did not see what size tank? My 200 has 10 Scarlets and 10 Zebra and the tank does fine. I have 5 Scarlets in my Neo Nano and they do a great job. History lesson, I once had a 75 gal., I purchased 2 Scarlets and 12 Zebra. For a year I watched these guys keep my tank clean. Then when Wolf Reef openned, Alex sold blue legs cheap so I bought 6. In six months I was down to 2 blue legs and 1 Scarlet.

I have both in my big tank, but just blue legs in my small tank (115gal).
I like the bluelegs, not the micro bluelegs.
In my 115g I put about 200 of them in there.
