I have a 24g aquapod and am looking to remove the stock hood and use a metal halide setup. I have found a used viper 70w clip on light that I like the looks of but I am wondering if anyone has any experince with a viper light and also if 70w is enough for my 24g.

We had a 10 gallon hex with the 70w viper over it and it filled the little tank nicely with light. When we upgraded from 10g hex to 20g hex, we started out using the same clip on viper, but weren't happy with the amount of light and ended up upgrading the light to 150w clip on MH. The footprint of our tank is quite different though, than your 24. Our hex is probably taller at about 20" tall, which makes a big difference in the amount of light.

you think the 150w clip-on will work out ok for the 24g or should I look for a sunpod or some other sort of MH option?

What are the dimensions of your 24g tank?

For ease of access, the Vipers are good but the connecting arm is very weak where it connects to the lamp cover. I bumped mine and it broke.... luckily I use it in the sump area anyway.

The Sunpods are great little lights and very well built.
