I have recently bleached some rocks and added them to my new tank. They had pink and purple and maroon coraline algae growing on them but the maroon color quickly outgrew all the rest of them. Will the pink and purple grow back over the maroon or am I out of luck? What should I do to keep primarly the colors of coraline algae that I desire growing fast in my tank without this maroon outbreak. The rock I started with had more pink and purple on it than maroon. Thanks!

marroon coraline is still just coraline, I don't think you can get one to grow over the other. I love the marroon.

Me too. Maroon is by far my favorite also.
You could try scraping it off in hopes that you will only get the pink and purple, but I think that it's just a random thing.

I obtained the rocks with a fair population of aptasia on them, So I selected the main ones with it after failing to use lemon juice to get rid of them in quarintine. They could retreat too far into the rock. So I put them on the hottest bath water i could with a gallon of bleach. They turned solid white. Then I filled it up again with hot water and put a double dose of dechlorinator in it and let it set for a day. I then rinsed it out with the tap water and dechlorinator repeadly 4 times. Then I let it dry in the sun. So all the aptasia was gone but so was the pink coraline. I guess the maroon just set in first. I then added a small school of peppermint shrimp and a copperband butterfly. I havnt seen any aptasia since. Thanks for all you guys input! :)

I do find something wierd though. I am color blind, and reds are my worst color. This stuff grows on the rock in the same pattern as the rest of my coraline, and it started at the same time, but some of it seems greenish brown. Some of it in the shade is definatly as red as most of the marroon on my snails shells. Like I said previously though, it seems brownish green in bright whiteish light. I wonder if it could be something else. I also have a small coating of fuzz over most of my tank that is clearish and my cleanup crew dosnt eat it. Thanks again!

Ok I took some pics of my rock with a flash on. It really helps me see the difference in colors i couldnt see before. Please tell me what this dark greenish stuff is. The difference in the true maroon coraline is appearent to me now. Now that I can see it the maroon is very beautiful.
