Ok I have a remora skimmer on my tank I know its not the greatest skimmer but it was free and is about all the room I have for a skimmer. I am having a problem with it filling up the cup with just water. I have not ever used one of these skimmers and there was no instructions with it. Any info would be a great help.

Thanks

Actually they're pretty good skimmers if you upgrade the pumps.

Is it the hang on? Is it the Pro or Standard?

The best thing you can do is upgrade to a Mag5 or Mag7 with a drilled collection cup. Marine Depot can help if you call, they don't advertise for above Mag3. All it consists of is the larger standard Mag pump and a taller collection cup.

As for current setup, do you have the o-ring around the cup to set depth? The air line attached to setup? Raise the cup up until you start getting darker skimmate.

No it did not come with the O-ring but I grabbed vacume cleaner belt that worked. But there was no air line either. what type of airline attachment does it use?

Hmm, I can't remember. Maybe it doesn't use an airline.

If it's making bubbles, then you should just have to get the cup higher.

Or, someone upgraded the pump but has the original cup so you can't get it high enough. What pump is on it?

The remora HOB does not use an airline. Inside the skimmer there is a nozzle that sprays the water from the pump at such force against a flat peice of acrylic that it aerates the water without an airline. I was using a mag 5 on my remora w/o any problems. There was no cup upgrade that I have ever seen. I would check to make sure that the skimmer is level across the back of your tank or that your tank itself is level. An incline towards the output might cause the skimmer water to be rising to high in the center chamber where the cup rests. With the o-ring you should be able to lift the cup all the way up to it's bottom edge....if it is up as high as possible and the bottom tube with the flat square is literally sitting flat on water....something is causing the water level in the skimmer to be TOO high. Look for something in the water's path that is causing the water not to escape. If there is a gap between that bottom square and your water level in the tank...I would assume that some additives you may be using are causing your skimmer to overskim. If you still can't figure out the problem I would call Aqua C. They are pretty good with helping you out and any replacement parts you might need.

Ok I have changed my remora in to a sump version instead of hanging on the back of the tank its all level but I did not have the O-ring on the cup which is the cause for the over flow. But I found the O-ring that came with it and it was broken. So I went to lowes and picked up a belt for a Bissel vacuum cleaner that fit perfect and fixed the height problem on the cup. I also drilled the cup and the skimmer housing to make a drain fitting like the newer ones. I am running the mag 3 pump that came with it. Any other ideas to make this skimmer better I will upgrade to a better pump at a later time.

Yeah, I forgot that mechanism that doesn't require the air line. Make sure that part stays clean. I used to take a small brush and do good cleans up in there.

There IS a upgrade collection cup that is useful at Mag5 level and necessary at Mag7 level. I ran about a 130 gallon full sps sytem with the Pro model and Mag 7 upgrade. It did such a good job when I went from the Mag3 to Mag 7 that all my calurepa died back.

really. I did not think these skimmers were that good. knew they were not bad skimmers but i also knew there were a bunch of better skimmers. So what did you have to do to put the mag 7 pump on it?

Purchased a Mag 7 and the upgrade Mag 7 drilled collection cup from Marine Depot. If they don't have it any more, contact AquaC directly. I think their site is www.protienskimmer.com (http://www.protienskimmer.com) but I don't remember for sure.
