i have heard about dosing vit c for corals but i am trying it for fish with ick. i bought a small 1-1.5 in blue tang on saturday, when i got it home it went to picking at the rocks right away. sunday morning the tang had a whitish haze and was barley moving so i went and bought some powdered asorbic acid (vitamin c) and added .25 teaspoon to the tank. after the meeting i added just a pinch to a small bowl of tank water and added food and let it sit for ten minutes. i then picked up the dying tang and placed it into the bowl which got her moving a little and she ate a few bites and i dumped the bowl back into the tank. she imedietly went back to hiding. yesterday morning i looked into the tank and she was swimming around like nothing ever happened, she is covered in ick but eating like a champ. every time she hears water pouring into the tank she comes running.

i do miss my old tangs, i wonder though if it was getting rest or the vitiman c or just the tang being itself.

When I had a blue tang. The only live stock I could add to my tank were shrimp. A mini goby would cause an ich outbreak. I'm exaggerating a little but ya they love ich like a fish likes water.

I tried the VitC for corals. Pain in the rear trying to remember the dose everyday. Never really did notice a dramatic change or improvement in my coral. I believe in some witch doctor stuff or snake oils - just not sold 100% on this one. Especially when you have to get the right VitC and ramp up the dosages. I can't even remember to take my own multivitamin everyday much less dose the tank. If you have nothing else in the tank maybe it did some good for you. Me personally - I think rest, swimming in it's food so it can't help eating and time are what was the answer for you. With that being said look at what minerals and vitamins are in salt mixes and additives.

FWIW I used it to get rid of black ich, and it worked. I stopped dosing and it came back with a vengeance. I bought a cleaner wrasse because I did not want to lose my two babies.
