Will my clean up crew be affected if I turn my lights off to enhance the growth of coraline algae? That is all I have in my tank other then live rock

You're going to turn off the lights to get coraline to grow? I thought it needed light? I don't have any purple coraline growing in any areas that don't receive decent light.

Coraline hates strong light , I run 150w mh. So yes, coraline algae does not like light.

I have 2x250w and 6 39w T5s on my 75, and I have LOTS of coraline!
Do you keep your CA and Alk where they need to be everyday? KEEP A LOG! Then get a proper dosing regimen in place, and you will have so much of it you will curse it.

As far as I know, or thought, coraline algae hates strong light. My calcium has always been around 460, but my calcium now is 400 I do not dose, it goes nowhere, I have zero coral only some live and dead rock. I think coraline just works for some and not so well with others. As I have read threads and arguments on how it does not like light, and others on the other hand who have great experience with intense lighting. I was not trying to compete with you guys lighting. Ha I have yet to upgrade. Just thought I would make that clear.

It usually does like a little lower light but not no light. If you want lower light can you raise your fixture?

Coraline is weird stuff. It grows and then flakes off at different times depending on tank parameters etc. Many belive that adding Strontium helps it grow. Are you adding Magnesium?

I'd focus on getting your tank running well and you'll get coraline eventually. It can also take quite a while in a new tank.
