Has anybody had any experiences/knowledge of chambered nautilus (nautilus pampilius)? And if there are any local vendors that sell them?

from what i have read, they require cold water. your best bet would be to ask this question on tonmo.com - a forum that is for cephalopods
i have never seen one in any local shop.

I saw one many years ago at the shop on callaghan and I-10. I remember it was in a reef tank. When I asked the guy how much it was he said "you can't afford it."

From just reading up on google. It sounds like it's a really bad idea to remove these guys from the ocean. It takes them 10 to 20 years to reproduce(at that they only produce 10-12 offspring), they are already hunted for their shells, it is illegal for the most part to export them from where ever they come from, the have bouancy problems in aquariums, their shells grow black and malformed in aquariums, and they have only successfully reproduced twice in major large aquariums.

"your best bet would be to ask this question on tonmo.com"- TONMO is awesome! Seems like a bad idea to keep a nautilus. cuttle fish and octos are on my dream list though.

Nautiloids require the same pressures as those found in their deep-water habitat, hence the buoyancy problems. These guys should be left in the ocean, IMO.
