local SA zoas and palys - batch #11 post #406

a long time ago, when i was collecting zoas, i would buy large rocks of zoas at local shops. then i would bring them home and cut them into 20 to 30 polyp frags and sell all but one or two to make my money back. i am thinking of doing this again if there is enough interest from people. now, however, i want to do it as more of a group buy thing.

here is how it will work:

if i buy a large rock for $50, i will cut it into 5 frags and sell four of them for $10 each. that way, i am making no profit and we can all benefit from more diversity in our tanks at minimal price. everyone could conceivably get 5 types of zoas for $50. these are not going to be named or LE corals, just the best zoas that happen to come into the local shops. if there is enough interest, i will even see if the local shops will special order some for us.

if this sounds like something you would like to participate in, please post here and include how many $10 frags you might be interested in.

btw, i cut them with a tile saw, so the frags are still on the rock they grew on - i just cut the rock into smaller pieces.

please include a general idea of how many frags you might be interested in. what ever size rock i buy, the frags will be $10. i will do my best to cut the frags as equal sized as possible.

He also put more zoas on his next order in case we want more. i will post pics before and after i frag them out tomorrow, once they open back up. this time the theme seems to be peach-pink-red......

The way it has been working is that each batch starts a new "line." It looks like BIGBIRD got the last frag from Batch #3 and there isn't a batch #4 yet, so we'll have to keep an eye on this thread if we want to get in line early for batch #4. Once Batch #4 is posted, claims are made/had in the order they are posted. At least, that's the way I've understood it. :)

You should buy the zoa colony rocks, frag them up and keep one of each for yourself and then sale the rest at $10 a piece so that you get ALL of your money back. Kind of like we are buying you frags for taking the time to organize everything and give us wholsesale prices for premium zoas...I wouldn't mind that considering the amount of time you put into it.

Agreed, there's no extra fairness in forcing yourself to pay and no reason why. I mean it's not like you're selling these for $50/frag obviously looking for a decent profit like some of the stuff in the for sale forum (their prerogative, not knocking them). Hook yourself up dude.

Perhaps a different "dibbs" system is in order, though I don't have any suggestions other than maybe dibbs will be given to whomever sends PayPals first, then if they don't pickup right away it's their loss if something happens to the frags.

the total i spent on these was right at $260 so i will cut them into 26(oops - cut one too few) pieces at $10 each. i will post the names of who gets what next to them - it will be in the order of claiming posts here in this thread. a name in red means pending, green means gone to that person. a name in grey is next in line if a pending falls thru. pendings will stay for 24hrs unless special arrangements are made.

i got great deals on all of these from AD and PA, so these are large frags - probably at least 25 polyps per frag.

This was the first time that I saw the post within 5 minutes and I still didn't get everything I wanted. In the past I always came in late and got left overs. These peeps are fast on here!!!!!!!

Note: Even the leftovers keep me happy. Large frags for $10! That's great...and every frag I've gotten was easily fragged to use as "trading frags".
