Went to the SA Zoo today with my boys. Weather was nice and just about every parking spot was full. Here are a few from the zoo today....
Ocellated Turkey (wish I didn't have the fence to shoot through)

Schweeeeeet pics! Even though you had the fence to shoot through, I didn't really notice until I finished reading your post. Great shots!

Very nice! Were you using the Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L?
How much of a crop was the eagle shot?

Awesome!
I just got a Canon 40D for Christmas, and bought a battery grip for it. I am also interested in which lens you were using...

The lens is a Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS - hands down the best Canon zoom lens for zoos and airshows. It is a similar weight to the 70-200 f/2.8L IS but ends up getting used more often - just not as fast of a lens.
The eagle was pretty close to the front of the exhibit. It was cropped way more than I like to - 50%. Usually I try not to crop more than 10% off the photo.

I agree with you, the 100-400 is perfect for zoos and airshows. The 70-200 f/2.8L IS is currently my longest lens and because I shoot in a lot of situations where lower light is sometimes a consideration it was the right choice for me right now but when I've taken it to the zoo I have wished that I had something with more reach. Maybe someday...
Once again, very nice job on the pics!

It's around $1500 for that Lens... Holy Canolis . But those pictures sure look awesome .

A cheaper addition for more than getting a longer lens would be to get the Canon 1.4X Teleconverter. It would give you a little more range with the 70-200mm without severely degrading the image and only loosing 1 f stop. I've also tried the Canon 2.0x Teleconverter and did not like the results much.
