I've had a this anemone for more than 3 years now, and it looks completely different. What would have caused it to change so much? The picture with the short bubble tips was taken in Dec 2005, the long tips taken in Dec 2008. The tentacles now are more than 6" long.

I know that my bubble tip doesn't really bubble except after I drip kalk... something about your water conditions, pH perhaps? Pretty nem, by the way (especially in the old picture).

As noted, poor lighting, water condition. They tend to bubble when they aren't as hungry.

120 Oceanic, 2-250w MH 10K 8 hrs/day & 2-110w URI VHO actinics 10hrs/day.

It split once a couple of years ago and made a trip around the tank, but came back to the same spot and has stayed put since. It's probably 3 times the size it was when I first got it.

It seems your lighting is sufficient but how long have you had MH? Maybe his current state is a result of long term versus short.

From what I know about BTA's as Bill Mentioned is that the bubbles should be actual bubbles if they are full which would equal a happy BTA. Since your lighting seems sufficient I would say something might not be right with your water quality...??? But again...how long have you had the MH?

It is a very drastic comparrison from the two pics. I would even thing that one is a GBTA and the other a LTA.

This is just what btas look like when they have been living in captivity for so long. Some keep their bubbled tentacles and some turn into long tentacles. This is why so many people think their E.Quadricolor is a M.Doreensis. As long as your anemone is still sticky, eating and still has color. ...I wouldn't worry too much.
How often do you change your MH bulbs?

The anemone has been in my tank for almost 4 years. Always under MH's changed yearly. I've gone back and forth between 10 and 14K, changed yearly. I feed it every once in a while a frozen shrimp. It catches pellets and flakes when I feed the fish.

I think it's healthy, I just missed the looks of the bubble tips. If you touch it, it won't let go. And while your stuck, the clown instantly morphs into a starving piranah.
