Hello and Marry Christmas to everyone! I hope you all got your favorite fish goods for xmas haha. Anyway I'm looking at getting a canister filter, so that in a pinch, if i dont have salt or enough ro water made up, and my ammonia levels get too high, or phosphate or nitrites, which never do but sometimes when fish die i get ammonia spikes and they suck. My skimmer keeps the tank decently clean. It appears to be getting all the tarry protiens and stuff off the water, I've only had it for almost a week. But Would you guys reccommend a canister filter? This red sea ocean clear filter comes with a uv steralizer. Would the UV steralizer do good to help me keep algae and cyno down to a minimum. Would it hurt my coraline growth? Would it also kill fungus spores in my aquarium? SOrry for the onslaught of questions but my tank needs something pretty quick! Appricate it! Merry Xmas~ matt

the uv sterelizer benefits do not justify the cost. i don't have a filter on my tank, use mainly l/r and sand for filtration, use cheeto to consume nitrates. do have 1 small canister filter to filter out larger imputities in main tank. my skimmer is a huge ASM g2 rated for 200 gl using it on my 100 tank.water changes help a lot especially if you are having water quality problems.
