What are some tried and proven remedies? I've read alot about it in the past, but never had them in my tank until now. Found two so far. Able to kill one my removing the rock, but now found another underneath my brain coral. Can't remove that.

Many choices.
Boiling hot water injected directly into them
Lemon juice
Kalk paste
Others.....

I have good success with Aptaisia X............BUT, you always end up repeating many times. I am unsure if it is the same ones coming back or others that were just getting going. Either way something satisfying watching them "melt" from the Aptasia X

Just did a search online and it seems the majority of people have had the best success using peppermint shrimp. Some people can't use these due to fish or inverts that eat peppermints. I don't have anything that will eat them. Then I also read that some people have had the peppermints eat button polyps. That would be a problem, but then I don't have many. I'm thinking about trying the peppermints since I wanted to put some cleaners in there also.

yep, peps worked pretty well for me, but when the peps gone the aptasia will come back. So always keep them in.

Being near Port Aransas, I've pretty much always had at least 1 peppermint shrimp in my Tank. Well, 2 years later and I have never ever seen as much as a tiny smidgen of "Aiptasia". And that's the truth. :)

I put a peppermint shrimp in my tank. Haven't seen him since though. A lot of people say that they rarely ever see their peppermint shrimp either. they are shy little buggers.

aptesia x, peperment shrimp, copperbands, start with the cheapest and work your way up to help control aptesia.

Peppermint shrimp and a good shot of kalk will take care of it for sure.

Aiptasia X worked for me. I tried Peppermint shrimp and my 4-line wrasse killed them.

The biggest deal on the peppermint shrimp and Copperbands that I've found is that they will only go after the smaller ones. If you have larger I'd try either the Aiptasia X or I've always used lemon juice on them myself, then let the natural predator take over from there.

I had alot of aptasia in my 75, I tried all of the above methods but none eradicated it for me. I bought some Berghia Nudibranches and they cleaned it out completely starting with the smaller ones first. IME, they crawled inside and out of all of my rock, including the small rocks my corals are mounted on. Once they have no more aptasia to eat they die unless you can sell them to another reefer. But I have had no more aptasia re-occurances since.

Our experience is that you have to nuke the big ones through your preferred method (inject with lime juice/kalk/boiling water or remove rock and hold flame to it) and the peppermint shrimp will take care of the small ones, plus they will also prevent new ones from coming along. The peppermint shrimps are a great investment for any sized tank!

I live in corpus and came across about 100 peppermints under a rock on our local jetty during the summer, breeding I guess. I took four of them home and have never had a problem. They do come out at night and stay hidden during days. Great tank cleaners.

I can say this,, I have aptasia,, i have tried Aptasia X and they came back, have put in pepermints,, they have done nothing to control it, and my 6 line does not bother the peps.. I guess that does not help much does it.

Whatever you decide to do, do it NOW!! They can get out of control really quick. Don't break it up as each piece will grow a new one. God help you if one goes through a powerhead.

I've had really good luck by pulling the affected rock from the tank (mark/ remember where the aptasia is, they are hard to spot out of water) and rolling a q-tip soaked in vinegar across the anemone. The vinegar kills it and the q-tip pulls the carcass cleanly from rock. Never had them come back and the vinegar gets neutralized quickly by calcium in the tank.

Thanks. I figured as much but have not looked for them yet. I'll head over to CVS, Walgreens, & Rite Aid and see what I find.
