I have never had this much trouble growing coraline algae. My 39g just refuses. Ive recently started dosiing 2 part everyday 2 weeks ago. My display will not grow it, but my fuge under a low wattage florescent bulb is growing it now at a good rate of speed. What gives why will it grow in my fuge but not the display under the MH. Same water so the only thing that makes since is the lighting. Maybe the color spectrum differnce??

Yep, coralline doesn't like high light.

Also coraline will cover acrylic much quicker than glass if you have an acrylic sump and glass tank. I always noticed my overflows would be covered long before my tank, and the lighting like others have mentioned.

add something small like the one i traded coraline79 its dual t5no wont take up much room have it come on before or after mh. it will allow for night or early morning viewing. and it wont interfer with the mh bulb u got and like. also think the wave length from the actinic will help with anenome

I have a 14 gal biocube with this problem too. I turned the lights out for 72 hrs to help rid a diatom bloom. When the lights came on their was spots of coraline everywhere. I'm still waiting to see if it sticks around or grows (it's been a few days.)
Note: I seem to get better results on my 58 gal. when I rotate a 2part with my kalk drip.

Maybe you should try to seed it with rubble or LR from the sump. I have 3 400w MH pendants and i have alot of coraline algea in the display with no problem.

I wanted to go T5 for a while but stuck with the MH really just so that I wouldnt spend anymore money on the tank. Im to the point where I simply want to try and enjoy it without any further expense. I would love to see the tank covered in purple algae though and its not growing under my 250 MH. I have tried the seeding method. Maybe now that its growing more in the sump it will lead to it growing in the tank.

I read where Anthony Calfo said that the different types of calcium play a part in it also. He said that Kalk was the best type for coraline growth. Give it a try for a month or so Ray, and let us know how it turns out.
