I have spots of pink/purple coraline algea growing on the back glass of my tank. It is kinda polka dotted...It does not look bad, but I was wondering (gulp, dumb question alert) if this is a good thing and should I encourage its growth on the glass. My live rock is all purple, but on the gl*****?

It's a matter of preference. It sure won't hurt anything. Most people want it to grow over the back glass, pumps, plumbing and anything else in the tank.

My back glass and overflows were completely covered until the asterias from hell took over and ate it all.

Asterias are a nuisance starfish. They can and usually are a bad addition to your aquarium. I have heard of them not hurting anything but almost always they eat your corals and stuff. They also multiply quickly. They are probably ok if you have a fowler.

I prefer for it to grow on my back glass, but I keep up with cleaning the sides and front glass. I use a mag float.

Here is a bunch of asterina stars on an overflow that used to completely covered in pink coralline algea.

I always had a few because they were cute. Then one day I had hundreds. After that, no more coralinne.

IMHO....the more coraline the better, as long as it is not on the front or sides...let it go

i had to get a harlequin shrimp to kill my asterinas, they got so bad you could barely see through the glass

i too believe the more coraline the better

I have been using purple up to get the coraline algae to grow in my tank. my live rock has some nice color now and I am starting to get some coraline algae growth on back wall now.
