I was looking at doing the back of my next tank, is there any brush paint that I should look for. I’d like to use a shade of blue and ideas of brands?

Might be easier to buy Blue Life tint film. It comes in blue and black.

Thats what I ended up doing. It looks great once installed. If you apply it before you set the tank up, it will be a whole lot easier to install.

Ok so what is blue life tint? I have never heard of it. Is it the same stuff as you put on your car windows?

Just depends on how much money you spend on the tank. I'd hate to coat on paint on something I spent a lot of money on when the tint can come off with ease. Just depends on your preference and what your working with!

Has anyone ever tried calendered adheasive vinyl? 24''X6 yards is around $8.00
I've been thinking about doing this to my tank. Just as good as paint and you can remove it if you want. I don't know how much that tint stuff is but this seams like a cheap route and should be very durable.
Hmmm... Think I may have a project tonight...
I think I have about 20 yards of black and blue if someone else wants to try.

I have 1.5 inch drains coming out of the back of my tank(calfo/durso). It is never going to be anything but the back of the tank, and I don't know how good the tint looks, but the paint looks better than any adhering backdrop I have ever had. So much so that I'll probably do it to ever tank I have from this point on. My 125 cost about $440 by itself, I guess thats not a lot of money, because I would do it again.

I've done some reading on the Blue life tint and have only found the factory reports on how it handles to salt creep have yall had any problems with it on your back grounds?

I have it on the back of my tank. Its been there for 3 years and have had no problems to date. That does not mean tommorrow it won't. I agree its a lot easier to remove tint then paint and if I sell my tank, the next owner may not want it. Now, all I have to do is talk my wife into DSA 140gal tank I want.

It's working fine on my end too. But I do not have salt creep around my tank....

The paint is permanent and could affect the price of your tank should you ever try to sell it.

I've never had a problem taking the paint off of glass. Usually peels right off.

both ways actually work good the best thing about paint is that if you scratch it you can add more color than with tint you have to tint the whole tank again

Well after all this good feedback my wife put a stop to me covering the back of the tank, thank you everyone for your great incite. She now wants me to build an entertainment center style stand that has access to both front and back and well be placing the tank in some manner that allows both front and back viewing. That is my new project I got to start on New Year’s Day. The tank itself is a 180g with a foot print of 72x24 and is drilled on one side (hence the front and back viewing). More to come with a new thread dedicated to just the build and set up of the monster.
