how's everybody doing?! I'm new to maast, and have been into the hobby for only 5 months. I have a 30 gallon bowfront type cube by odyssea. I could use lots of help. The tank itself has its own type of chambers, not like a biocube, it has a pump that takes the water to a upper chamber, then it releases the water out of a tune with small holes about 5 into a small bow where I only have padded fiber. I'm sure this is not right, I do not like the big pump that is viewable inside the tank. Do I need this type of filtration? Can I use only a hob skimmer? I could use some info. The tank has been running for a while. I have a pair of clowns, a panther wrasse, orange spot goby, fire shrimp. Huge frogspawn colony, over 14 heads. Open brain, pom pom xenia, few shrooms, leather, I run 4 t5 standard output bulbs. But do intend on switching to a high output fixture, let me know what advice you have for me! :) thank you

Welcome to MAAST. FYI: You can edit your posts after you post; to make corrections.

In regards to your nano...I would personally get some some live rock and once it's cured replace your filter media with it. The live rock will be much more use for you especially if you are planning to keep corals.

This is also my personal opinion.

As in rubble? There is some other type of media in there as well. What do you suggest I do if I do not want the visible pump? Can I just run a skimmer?

I need to see a pic of what pump you are talking about. I'm thinking you are talking about your return pump? If you are...you need that to return the water back to the display side of the tank.

Yes, live rock rubble and/or small pieces that will fit back there. My brother-inlaw is doing the same thing with his RSM, and I'm doing the same with my 14gal BioCube, but mine doesn't really matter because it's being plumbed with my 120 gallon.

Wait to see what others say and search google along with asking around before you make a decission. You will find in this hobby that many people have different views, and you can make a decission that fits for you based on all the info you gather.

Have fun.
