I would like to add some macro algae to my display tank for a few reasons. I would like to add some color and visual movement, as well as add some cover for my tank inhabitants and possibly encourage growth of my pod population. Any suggestions? Anyone have some I can buy off of you? Any pictures? Thanks!

it would depend on what fish you have in the tank, any tangs and they will eat the macro. if you have no herbivors you could add a clump of cheato or dragons breath, they are not invasive and easy to controll. do not add calurpa because they will take over a tank very quickly.

Also Caulerpas will go sexual (turn your water green) if not on a 24 hour lighting cycle.

I don't have any tangs. I have chaeto in my sump/fuge, I just wanted something that would look nice in the display. I don't think a big ball of chaeto would look very nice. I was also thinking about putting some in my biocube.

My fish (tangs) eat anything in my main display except for halameda. I can sell you a baggie for $5.00 if you're ever in S.A..

Check out www.reefcleaners.org They have some great info on Micro Algae, requirements and draw backs of each type. Very informative, a must read. Press the detail.

color, visual, movement, cover, can all be achieved by a finger leather. I have one, pastel pink, about 14" tall with 4 main trunks coming form the base, and tons of "fingers". I love it. it takes up about a quarter of my 30 long tank. As soon as I get rid of the algea at the base of it, I am moving it to my 125.

This is pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to MKCindy for the reefcleaners link, good info. Jack, I will have to get some off of you next time I make it to SA. If the tour of tanks goes down in January, I will for sure be there then.
