skimmer question

Do you need to have that little air valve thing at the end of the air line hose?
just wondering because when i have it on there arent very many bubbles,but when i have it off there are tons,and it just seem like it would skim better.
what is the main purpose of the airaider?

it controls amount of air entering making the bubbles. what kind of skimmer is it.

its an Octo 110.it has alwyas worked bad a** up till recently its been acting weird.
i dont have the airaider on it and its skimming just fine.

I have the same one it might just be salt creep clog. rinse the big black thing in hot water to help dissolve everything. for this model it only introduces the air for the needle wheel pump. the black thing is only a silencer. the riser tube determines if u skim wet or dry.
