but i do have a powerhead i had in a tank that i treated w/ copper 2y ago and it has not been in water since. is it safe to use in a reef tank? if not what can do to treat it.

You can still use it. What I would do is give it a good soaking in a 50/50 mix of warm water and white vinegar for a few hours. You know I would actually plug it in and run it in the mix to really get to all the running parts. Then simply rinse well and put it in the tank.

^^^ What he said. And be sure (like 300% sure) to get all of the vinegar off before putting it in the tank. There were a few members that attributed vinegar to a un-conquerable goo build up in their tank.

I run all my pumps in vinegar/water, light rinse, and return to tank, including skimmer, insump retuirn, and powerheads. I never had goo in tank. I do this on a monthly basis.
