thanks bob, but i think i have the emergency under control - christy is picking up about 100 gallons from a few places. i should be able to make water for subsequent needed water changes for the next few days.

looks like an almost total fish loss ATM, we shall see what happens with the corals....

no anthony, that one didnt make it thru this either. the eel was lying flat on the sand by the time i started changing water, but now he is crawling thru the rocks. the beta never showed a bit of stress.

i did a 100 gallon water change - to be followed by another 50 gallons later tonight or tomorrow morning. the corals look ok right now, but time will only tell with those. i did have to pull out 6 dead ones earlier.

lost all of my tangs (12" vlamingi, 6" hippo, 4" hippo, 5" yellow, 4" yellow, 4" sailfin & 5" chocolate), a 3" royal gramma, 6" algae blennie, and a wierd hawkfish i was never able to identify. almost all of these fish have been with us for 5 years, some longer.

all of the sps were coated with anemone bits - looked like they had been sprayed with white silly string - dont expect any of them to live, but maybe they will surprise me.

all lps are stressed but look like they will make it.

both gorgonians are fine, but all zoas and polyps are closed tight.

the clams in the clam tank (still recovering from a broken light bulb burn) seem uneffected.

before the water change, the ORP was reading just over 200 - now it is back up to 270.

the skimmer has already pulled out 5 gallons of dark green water.

i may hook up a hyatt torpedo i borrowed from bill tonight or tomorrow depending on water test results.

THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE HELPED OR OFFERED TO HELP.

thanks for all the comments.....

the radiant wrasse came out and swam around a bit late last night, so i guess it will make it too.

as of this morning the ORP is back up above 300, and the eel still looks stressed. the corals look pretty good, even the sps are starting to show a little polyp extension.

i am going to do another 50 gallon water change this afternoon. the skimmer pulled out another gallon of gunk overnight.

Ace,
I don't know if it will help but when things calm down, I have a few fish that you are welcome to. I have a Ytang, Ptang, Lunar Wrasse, Coral Beauty (Beautiful color) and maybe 1 or 2 more. We were going to sell them, then we were going to keep them but is a worthier cause. They are good and healthy.

Steve, I'm not sure it's legal to sell p-tang in Texas. Only in Nevada... I guess it's ok if you give it away, but I'm not sure where you are going to get it...

Ace, let me know, I have another 70 gallons of water made up.

Tang.o rama!!I think you just want a Naso because I can't keep one alive.

Jk

Bill S
Wed, 19th Nov 2008, 08:54 AM
And he wants an achilles because:

1) I couldn't keep mine alive,
2) I now can't add one (too many other tangs to beat it up)

Tangs I wish I had, but can't add:

Kole Eye
Achilles

Tangs not on your list that is HER favorite of mine...
Orange Shoulder Tang

And last but not least: Tangs you HAVE to have if you have a tank full of tangs:

Sohal

But, that's right, you are getting another Clown Tang...

I also think you need a big Angel or 2. What the heck, you have a great spread of SPS and LPS for them.

hobogato
Wed, 19th Nov 2008, 08:58 AM
yeah bill, i chose the poor man's sohal (clown tang) because they are very similar but the price difference is rediculous.....

i would rather have a sohal, and since that or the clown tang would be the very last fish i add, it may end up being a sohal instead

Kristy
Wed, 19th Nov 2008, 09:18 AM
I was thinking the same thing about the sohal... if you're going to have that beautiful display of color and the tang-a-palooza going on, a sohal sure would look pretty in there!

Given any thought yet to the order of those tangs (other than obviously the purple and mimic first since they are available now, etc. and the clown / sohal last for other obvious reasons)?

Can't wait to see all the beautiful display of color that will be, and we are holding out hope for you that your mystery wrasse is just being mysterious and hiding somewhere until all the dust settles! Those things are so amazing!

hobogato
Wed, 19th Nov 2008, 09:50 AM
well, i want to add the copperband asap so it will be established before adding all the tangs. the two bristletooth tangs will have to be added at the same time, and the sailfin and sohal/clown will have to be added last. other than that, the rest should get along ok no matter when i add em.

Bill S
Wed, 19th Nov 2008, 05:50 PM
Ace,

The best luck I've had with a CBB is with no other fish. I've put them in my fuges. Even though there isn't much room, they get used to eating without any competition, and without anyone bothering them. Both that I did this with turned into very aggressive eaters. Mine outcompetes the big angel, the rabbitfish and all of the tangs.

picked up a few from my list today:

purple tang
chocolate tang
yellow eye kole tang
gold rim powder brown (substitute for powder blue)
copperband bfly
pair of clowns - not sure if they are oscillaris or true percs
clown fairy wrasse - i know, wasnt on the list, but couldnt pass it up :)

all are getting along great and they all ate just 15 minutes after being added to the tank

Wow! Sorry to hear about all of this Ace.

My Powder Blue beats up anything I put in the tank. Even beat up the (smaller) Sohal I had until he outgrew the PB. Might want to consider the PB being one of the last additions to the Tang corral.

forgive me for this newbie question, but did the "tank melt down" happen because the anenome was forced through the pump and released a toxin in the water?

Sorry to hear about this!

hobogato
Thu, 20th Nov 2008, 09:50 PM
yep, the stinging cells of the anemone were spread throughout the water and stung all of the fish to death. looks like the corals may be ok.

Looks like you already got the powder... I'd agree, it was one of my last fish, and it's as tough as my Sohal. Maybe tougher.
