So I had a project in mind and decided to buy an 8g BioCube. I made a few changes and added some simple livestock. The final set up should be early next week. Just a few days old.

Man your title threw me off for a moment. "Fresh Setup". Im thinking that sure does look like saltwater to me, lol.
Looking good I really like those biocubes. Cool mods to. The only thing id do diffrent is to spraypaint the mesh guard black with some Krylon Fusion. Those Astrea star snails are the coolest.

I thought about painting, figured it would wear off quickly. I shopped for black mesh but came up empty handed. It'll cover with algae in short time.

yea, after I posted that i said to myself in a few weeks it will start to be covered with coraline. Coraline in my experience loves PC lighting which those Bio Cubes do have.

Man, how many tanks and future tank projects do you have Mike?

I'm not keen on the sand at all. I have a little left if you want it.
But I had to have it as part of the "project".
So far the danged project has racked up $400. You could call it an impulse buy.

I own about 8 tanks from 8g to 400g. A little set back on the 400g, so I figured I'd spoil myself with this "project". Lost $5,000 in plecos last month and I was still a little bummed out. Staring at an empty 125g that used to house the rarest of rare fishes.... Aw well while shopping for replacements at one of my favorite freshwater shops I saw something from the corner of my eye and it got me to thinking.....
BTW, I have way more motorcycles than fish tanks.

Couldn't find the black mesh at a sweing store or craft store?

What kind of modification did you do to the back chambers? I can't really tell from th pictures what that piece is that you put on there. I'm setting up an 8 gal biocube for my brother and am starting to think about modifying the rear chambers.

Chalk it up to laziness. I had about 24 hours to get the tank, get it all up and running with livestock so that it would at least begin to settle in. I stopped at Walmart on the way home. It doesn't bother me one bit.
Yeah I glued the mesh on with a hot glue gun and within 20 minutes had about an inch of live black sand in place, the live rock and corals. About 4 hours later it looked like the pics I posted. I had less than a week to start seeding the tank with bacteria to establish some kind of filtration.
LABROWN I did not do anything to the chambers themselves. What I did was make a rock solid lid to fit over the chambers. I'm not trying to win any coolest ultra nano awards or anything like that.
It's just a "project" at this point.

Off topic alert:

I'll try and find pics. I quit taking them of that tank years ago.
My list included.
2x Xingu Scarlet
1x Blue eyed Panaque (Beyond super rare, think $2,500)
6x green phantom
2x blue phantom
1x blue panaque
3x blue eyed bruno
2x red leopard/red devil
2x orange seam
2x mango
1x Anthicus adonis (freaking huge)
1x high red finned cactus
1x watermelon panaque
1x xingu platinum royal
1x cucumber panaque
2x gold xanto/chubby
1x baby goldie
2x small zebra plecs.
I think that was the latest of the list before the wipe out. Took 2 days to kill everything after adding an already quarantined panaque. Word is that some panaques can carry a virus/bacteria that will kill any "new" panaques that come into the territory of the carrying panaque. It's kind of a defense system to protect their territory and not become overpopulated. I cannot verify if anything like that happened as it was so quick. Lost a 5 year collection.
Ok back on topic now.

I am sorry but I don't see what is so great about an 8g. What is with that stupid white mesh and that crappy plexi. Can't you even cut a straight line? I could have hooked you up with a nice 30g for lots less than $400. Let us know when you get a real tank running.

Oh that's really you Dave? I thought maybe BigBird had created a new account to harass me with.
Yeah I needed a place to keep them while they waited to be fed to the frogfish. Spoiler alert. Oh wait that should have been first.
