:at_wits_end:I needed water and thought I would give Polly's a try. I just tested for nitrates. They were at 15! At 59 cents a gallon I will hardly consider them over tap water again.

Are you sure that your test kit is good? I get water from Pollys all the time and it has always tested out for zero. Did you test after you mixed the salt?

It seems so. I am in the process of looking into one.

I noticed you are in San Marcos. I should've stated more clearly the SA store. Yes my tests are accurate and I tested before adding salt.

I recently read about leading bottled water brands being dirtier than regular tap water. But I never expected 15 PPM. It Sure does make me wonder what else is in their water.

Personally, I've never fully trusted RO h2o from most stores. Like TexReefer posted, it's worth the peace of mind paying the $$$ to get your own filter set-up.

Also, I thought you're not supposed to rely on NO3 tests of RO h2o before adding salt? Or, is that just ro/di h2o? Thought I read that you get a kind of false positive w/most test kits when testing pure ro h2o.

I have my own RO/DI set up, but had to purchase water about 4 weeks ago while waiting on an replacement RO. I bought from the machine outside my HEB and took my TDS meter with me, came in at 4ppm. While its not zero, it does not pass thru the DI material, so I think a very good low number. The machine also had the date of last service.

15ppm is also ALOT cleaner than what you'll get straight from the tap, but I also recommend getting your own RO/DI. The time you save from lugging jugs of water around will be well worth it!!!!

Lugging jugs is an extreme nuisance. I am planning to stop by buckeye's this weekend for pricing an RODI unit. I have to disagree on 15 PPM "RO" from Polly's being cleaner if you just mean in terms of Nitrates. Tap nitrates run me about 5 PPM. Testing RODI from Texas Tropical, I get <5 PPM. Funy thing is theres a windmill in front of the Polly's and I haven't tried one yet.

Less than $200. I say it like that as most kits are $150 but you may need adapters, tubing etc. Buckeye is a great source for RO/DI. Their units don't really comes as a kit, you'll need to make sure and order the appropriate adapters. It's the idea that since everyone's needs are different, you can keep the cost down a few dollars by not including every adapter.
