Very cool!! I'll be following this one closely as I want to do something very similar myself. I want a room that is a little larger though for a ~200g prop system.

Whats your plans for climate control? Is that gonna be like a prop room? Pretty small for a show type room aint it? Or is that the back side of an in wall..?

Any chance you could give a price break down as the build progresses? That would help me tremendously when I start planning my build.

Looking good Steve! Long time coming huh?!?

A Long time...I wanted to get everything finished this weekend but my shoulder got really sore. I'm still not supposed to be lifting over 10#'s but you guys know how hard-headed I am.

Any chance you could give a price break down as the build progresses? That would help me tremendously when I start planning my build.

It's hard to give a breakdown because a lot of this stuff was FREE from work but I can give you a basic cost depending on where you shop. I'll work on that tonight. I'll also merge this post with my original tank build to keep everything together.

Whats your plans for climate control? Is that gonna be like a prop room? Pretty small for a show type room aint it? Or is that the back side of an in wall..?

Jim, this is the back of a peninsula install. This is an equipment room that will house my 150g sump, skimmer, reactors, frag tank and all other equipment. Once I start the plumbing, it will be more understandable. I wished I knew how to draw on the 'puter because it would be self-explanatory then. This may sound small but it's 40 sq ft of space for stuff most of us have under our tanks. Climate will be controlled by a small ac/heater unit. The chiller will be remotely located outside.

What type of rock is that in your tubs?

The rock is a mix of Figi, Kaelini and Tonga Branch. I have one 42# Kaelini and one Big branch about 25#. The rock work will go down the middle of the tank. We have two sitting areas on each side of each side of the tank for viewing. The only thing that will be under the tank will be the OM 4way and plumbing for it.

I will be putting together a special electrical panel that will have GFCI's and switches to cut off the main pumps when need be. All the wiring will be installed in seal tight tubing for waterproofing and overall cleaner look. All the plumbing will be esthetically pleasing to the eye. I will have a frag tank that is fed by gravity and lit by the only MH in the whole set-up. I wasn't going to finish out the sheet rock because it was to be temporary but I want it all to look good. The only piece of equipment I need is a new controller. I have an old lighthouse controller that works fine but just wanted something new, maybe a ACjr or RK2.

I will be doing another aluminum light out the "C" channel that I made the one for the 135g. All the ballasts will be remote in the fish room and the rack will raise up out of the way for full access to the tank. Here's a couple pics of the old one for the 135g...

Well, I got another 110g tub from Drew at The Critter shop, so now I can plumb everything without having to move the rock first. I will have water, sand and rock in the tank by the weekend of the 14th. Really looking forward to this. More pics to come...

um i know i havent been around for awhile and i hate to state the obvious.
but i have done work at the VA hospital and am a tech at the hospital in kerrville.
i know it seems like a great idea to put metal studs in. but its been my experience that
they will rot away at the bottom especially with saltwater on them. we had to replace
the studs in the walls every three or four years in the showers. granted the urine and
chemicals didnt help from the Alzheimer's patients. but even with water resistant
sheetrock (greenboard). with saltwater itll go 5 times faster you can spray a sealer
to help but its the underside of the bottomplate youll need to protect.
if you get a good 50yr caulking and go all around the base of the wall it will help.
just food for thought on the walls in the garage.
sounds like a great project though. wish i could do it at my house.

Got water in the tank and pumps are now running. It is hard to round-up 400+ gallons and transporting but it got done. The transporting in this cold weather has made it hard to get the temp up but we are working on it. I have a 1000w heater but I can't seem to find my controller to run it, it is all out or off. It will work great on the controller. Right now, I'm thinking about putting a room heater in there. Pics to follow...tomorrow I will be putting the lights from my 135g over the tank for now until I can build a new one.

Always love a clean well planned install Steve. Very nice work. Just a note, someone had previously mentioned a certain sealer. We recommend the application of several thin coats of Corevlastic paint (around $100 for 5gal.) on anything you want to protect and seal against water damage for all areas around our custom in wall installations. Several years back we pulled out two giant fire places from a wall and installed an 800 gallon room divider. We used the Corevlastic like we always do. However, just before the end of the installation we had a weekend of daily torrential rainstorms back to back. Someone screwed up because something was not sealed off properly outside above the chimney, maybe the flue. Well, anyway, water made it's way down to the drywall and pooled just above the aquarium. Much to our amazement the Corevlastic worked the opposite way we had intended... Imagine the bottom of a water bed. That is exactly the way it looked several rows and areas of pouches filled with maybe 15 gallons of rainwater. It was crazy. I know the stuff was not meant for that severe of use, but for our eyes it was one heck of a way to prove performance, reliability and durability. Concern of humidity and salt spray are not an issue for us anymore. Just thought I would share.

Well I started the new 10 light rack last night and got the new bulbs and reflectors in today from B&B (tHANKS jEREMY). It's hard to get the 60" bulbs. I will post pix as it goes but got a MASNA Bod Meeting tonight.

Well, I started my 10 light light rack and here are a few pix. I routed the wires thru PVC to keep it less cluttered.

The rack holds 10 - 60" bulbs. The middle are stationary and the outside 4 on each side pivot up on hinges when the canopy door opens. You can see the pivot points. I also numbered the wires for ease of installation.

The light rack is finally complete and mounted on the tank. I will get pix tomorrow and post them. Man this thing is really nice and puts out a lot of light.

I had to totally re-wire the rack because I don't know if I had a short or not but I thought I was going to have to call the Paranormal Research Society. I had one bulb that would light up and it was not wired to anything. The lights are wired in pairs but when I wired the center ballast, the bulb next to them would light up. Man it was kinda freaky. So, I re-wired the whole rack and now everything works great.

Most people don't realize the size of the tank, so here I am lifting up one side of the swing style light rack. There are 10 bulbs across, the center 2 stay stationary and 4 swing up to the middle on each side. I turned one side off to show them swinging up.

Thanks for the comments Rob. I will probably be able to start the stand skin and canopy in the next week or so.

Well, I figured I would post some pix of the frag system attached to my Main tank. I am finally content with how it's working, so I decided to let you in on the project. I just need to re-mount the light as it is off-center. I now have about 570g of water volume going thru Main tank, sump/refugium, skimmer, reactors and frag system. I will soon be adding another 30g tank to the frag system. That way we can get the 5 frag racks out of the display tanks.

Yea Jeff, I like that size. I actually got a couple of sheets of acrylic and am practicing some new-found skills. I have a bunch of tools I got from my Dad before he died and I am trying to work some of the things he taught me. Looks like fun...building a top-off tank for the wife's 210g.
