I just got a cool BTA from Kjerde with a pair of Rod's clowns that are hosting it.

The BTA is also splitting. Is there anything I should be doing to help it during this process? Looks like a big hole in the middle of the anemone and I can see the rock it's attached to.

Thanks for the help.

2 for 1 special!

Get ready, one will probably take a trip around the tank.

They tend to move right before splitting and then lots after........hurting/killing whatever they run over, until they settle down again.

Make sure all your internal powerheads have filters over the intake.

What about Koralias?

Thanks for everyone's input/advice...I've never had a BTA...and the splitting thing is kind of scary...especially when I just bought them and just want them to acclimate comfortably.

I am using my wife's pantyhose over the back half of my Koralias. She donated a couple knee highs for protection for my Haitian Pink Tip I got at B&B.

that's good news that they are splitting. I know one MAAST member is looking for a BTA clone - i.e. one that split from an original host. So go make some $$ and congrats on keeping the tank happy enough that the BTA would split.

From what he said... "back half of the koralia" I assume that is refering to the intake (suction) part of the powerhead.

Took pump off mounting base, slipped pantyhose from the back of pump towards the front,to the middle of housing.Toe part of hose covers the back of pump.

One thing to consider is that any time you stress an anemone you create the potential for a split. This is common among many corals as well. Essentially they split to survive. 2,3,or even 4 clones might have a better chance of living than 1 colony in bad times. Since the anemone is new, I'd assume it was pretty upset at all the moves. It decided to split in your tank. I wouldn't say it was because your tank was perfect for the anemone but that it finally had a chance to go about it's business. The best part is, and was mentioned, that you will have 2 for the price of one. Instead of immediately selling the clone off, I'd hold onto to it for a few months. Chances are that one of them might die an accidental death and then you will still have one. When everything settles I'd attempt cutting the clone into 2, thus creating 3. When the 2 halves of the split clone heal, then I'd begin selling them. That way you will always have a display piece, a "mother" piece and then have clones to sell from.

Thanks, good idea Mike.

I definitely do not have any intentions of selling the clone any time soon. I'm also begining to wonder what's going on...

I can no longer see the anemone splitting...It looks like one again...is it possible that ther was just a hole in the foot because it was in bad health???

I tested the SG of the water from the owner's tank and it was over .029, could that have anything to do with it?

Is that yours? That's sweet! I'll have a BTA tank!

I'm not sure what's going on. It never actually split....but when I put it in the tank it had a huge hole as if it was splitting...now it just looks like one piece.
