I now have one male and seven female Lyetail anthias. It is very hit or miss. I have trien a few dry foods, most gets spit out, a few take a little.
Right now only consistent thing is mysis, they love them. Twice a day for now. I always put a little dry in with mysis before feeding, gradually try to get them over.

I've had better success with at least a male female pair of Anthias versus just one, but it's not impossible. They like to eat shrimp of all kinds, but it can be hit or miss. I've also feed my fish amphipods from my fuge and the Anthias hit them like missiles.

I have had a total of 3 Square Anthias males in the course of a year and they all passed away within a 1 - 2 month period...unknown reasons. They did not get ick or starve...they just died. I think from depression.
This is by far my favorite fish!
My wife surprised me on Thursday with the largest one I have ever seen over 6inches long...some of you may have seen it at Aquarium Designs. Well by Sunday morning it was dead!!!
I'm thinking it's difficult for these fish to adjust when they are use to schooling in our open oceans.
I will try one more time but will wait until I can afford a school of them. The square Anthias are always so large...I would love to get my hands on much smaller ones with the hopes of a better survival rate.
My last one did not eat at all. Though my wife was told it was eating in the store and she bought the mysis shrimp they said it was eating...but I did not have any luck with him eating it or my other foods. Also he was in a small 30gallon at the store and went to my large 120gal reef...so you would think he would have been happy. :(
Good luck.

I have had my small school of 8 total Lyetail anthias a month or so. No losses. Average length is prob around 2-2.5 inches. They are eating frozen mysis with no difficulties. I am working on expanding thier diet. I feed 2-3 times per day.

You welcome... It has worked for me. I also successfully raised a female Lyteral Anthias from the size of a nickle to about 2 inches using this method. She was so small that I had to put some meshing in between the teeth of the overflow to make sure she didn't get sucked though. Good Luck!:)

I have had my trio of Lyretails for a year now. They eat all types of frozen foods. Mine will eat Reef Plankton, Mysis, Prime Reef, Marine Cuisine, Plankton, Brine and even ORA Pellets. I feed them twice a day.
