I was hoping to make a rock structure in my tank using super glue, does anyone know if this glue I bought is safe for the tank?

I believe the type of adhesive you need contains Cyanoacrylate. That can be found in the Locktite Super Glue gel. I think the other types of adhesives can be bad if cured/mixed in the water. I personally use the locktite stuff. You could also use the tube type of clay like adhesive that is two colored and has to be kneaded/mixed to get the chemical bond started. It may make your skimmer go crazy while curing. The good thing about that type is that with rock it may get a better bond and also it can be shaped and cut to your liking. Plus you get a bunch of it.

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but what's the trick to getting the rocks to stick together? I've tried the loctite gel and the marine epoxy and neither worked.

Place your rock or frag and give it some time to cure. It only cures instantly when it contacts you skin! And only use gel, the thin stuff is a disaster when it hits the water.

Same with epoxy, it takes time to cure.

If you want rocks to stick together John is right. You need a little time for the glue to cure. I've used Gorilla Glue in the past with a hour cure time outside the tank. Needless to say, it bonded the rocks to the point that I needed a hammer and chisel to get them apart. This may not be ideal, with the new information that has been provided from, John.

I was wondering about Gorilla Glue. We were looking at Home Depot yesterday and that one was the only one that said "stone" on the package. I just didn't know if it was more toxic than the others.

Thanks for the feedback.

I just looked up the MSDS sheet for Gorilla Glue. Doesn't look good....

Wow Jonn, your right. I wonder if it is bad stuff just when it when it's still wet. It will turn into foam after about 5-15 minutes. After an hour or so it is as hard as a rock...

At first I let the rock cure 1 hour out side of water so the glue would bond. Then, I let all the rock cure in a 100g rubbermain storage tank with saltwater for a about 3 weeks or so before I put togather my new fishless tank. I did this a little over 2 years ago. I wonder what the MSDS for Super Glue Gel is???

Thanks for the heads up John.
