How often do you change the media? It says it can last several mos. but is that really how long people go?

I replace every two months. I purchased it in bulk from bulkreefsupply.com (http://bulkreeefsupply.com)

I used to change mine out weekly but I was trying to kill off algae. The back of most media says it is spent in just a few days. The normal method is that you must test your water while using the phosban. You need to do the standard 3 (Trite, Trate, and Amm) plus Phosphate. Get a baseline of what your tank is doing BEFORE attempting to change anything. This can be said about any planned changes to your tank. Think about how every fitness program says to check in with your Doctor before beginning. Same thing. Once you know what all your levels are, plan for what you want them to do. Begin your Phosban program and continue to test your levels, daily. Watch how long it takes to bring a noticeable change. If the levels begin to come back up you may need to change your media. What I've researched was that the media lasts about a week for a couple of changes. Once you get the levels where you'd like them then the media might be good for a month or so. When things have stabilized you might be able to begin testing weekly.
