Cleaning with vinegar

a while back i remember someone posting that you could clean algae off a power head with vinegar. well my modified maxijet has algae growing on it and i thinks its slowing down its ghp.
so my question is after cleaning off the powerhead with the vinegar, is it ok to just rinse it off and place it back in the tank or do i have to let it sit out for a while?

I've always just rinsed them off really well and then placed them in the tank right away.
